Tufayel Ahmed, a 15-year-old activist from Balaganj, Sylhet, has been nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize 2025.
The award is organized by the Netherlands-based organization ‘KidsRights Foundation.’ The organization has published details of the nomination on its website.
According to the KidsRights Foundation’s website, Tufayel has been nominated for his contributions to climate justice, the environment, digital safety, and education.
Growing up in Balaganj, Sylhet, Tufayel has been working to protect children’s rights through education, innovation, and advocacy. He founded a science club to inspire his peers to engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills among children.
Additionally, he has conducted awareness campaigns on children’s safety, the harmful effects of child marriage, and the importance of equal access to education, particularly encouraging girls to stay in school and participate in science programs.
Tufayel has authored two books—A Manual to Modern Physics and A Journey to the Center of the DNA. These books simplify complex scientific topics for young learners, sparking their interest in science.
Through his workshops and mentoring programs, over 1,000 students have participated, preparing them to compete in national and international competitions.
Tufayel’s work is not limited to education and science. He is involved in innovative projects for climate justice and environmental conservation, including a solar-powered eco-hub vehicle, a method to create biodegradable plastic from carbon dioxide, and a portable water purification system for low-resource areas. Furthermore, he is working to raise awareness about digital safety to ensure children grow up in a secure digital environment.
In recognition of his leadership and innovative work, Tufayel has been a finalist in the World Innovation Science Project Olympiad (WISPO) and the International Youth Research Innovation Competition (IYRIC), and he participated as a Global Nominee in the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024.
