Bangladesh Draws with Hong Kong-China

Sylhettoday Desk |  ১৪ অক্টোবর, ২০২৫

Bangladesh fell behind after conceding a penalty goal in the first half but capitalized on Hong Kong-China being reduced to 10 men in the second half. Javier Cabrera's team fought back with a brilliant goal from Rakib Hossain to level the score. However, despite the comeback, the red-and-green representatives couldn't secure a victory, ending in a point-sharing draw.

On Tuesday (October 14) at Kai Tak Sports Park in Kowloon, Hong Kong, Bangladesh played out a 1-1 draw against the hosts.

This result has effectively ended Bangladesh's dreams of qualifying for the main round of the Asian Cup qualifiers for Hamza-Jamal and their teammates.

In the first 30 minutes, neither side could mount a significant attack. With the match goalless, Tarek Kazi invited trouble by fouling Hong Kong's Verre Fernando Azevedo inside the box. The referee issued a yellow card to Tarek and awarded a penalty.

Captain Matt Or made no mistake from the spotkick, putting Hong Kong ahead 1-0. They led by that single goal at halftime.

After the break, coach Javier Cabrera made changes at the 64th minute, bringing on Fahamedul in place of Zayan and Jamal Bhuiyan for Sohel Rana.

Four minutes after entering the field, at the 68th minute, Fahamedul unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, but the Hong Kong goalkeeper comfortably controlled it.

At the 74th minute, Fahamedul wasted a great chance from Sader's cross, failing to connect with the ball and missing a goal-scoring opportunity for Bangladesh.

In the 76th minute, Hong Kong defender Oliver Benjamin received a second yellow card for tackling Samit Som from behind, forcing him to leave the field and reducing his team to 10 men.

Cabrera made another substitution at the 80th minute, replacing the lackluster Morsalin with Faysal Ahmed Fahim.

Despite creating multiple chances in the second half, the much-needed goal eluded Bangladesh, who squandered several easy opportunities. At the 83rd minute, from Fahim's cross from the left flank, Fahamedul received the ball inside the box and headed it down. Rakib, the opportunist, latched onto it and slotted it into the net.

However, Bangladesh couldn't find another goal in the remaining time, forcing them to settle for a point share.

Last Thursday, Bangladesh had lost 4-3 to the same opponents in a home match. To keep alive their hopes of reaching the main round of the Asian Cup qualifiers, victory was the only option in this game for Hamza-Jamal and co. With that not happening, Bangladesh's chances can now be considered completely dashed.
