6-year-old schoolgirl, Nishat, was found dead inside a sack two days after she went missing in Brahmanbaria district, triggering shock, grief, and anger in the local community.
Police recovered the body on Friday afternoon (April 17) from a bush near her home in Mohanpur village under Talshohor East Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila.
The victim was a nursery student at a local kindergarten and the daughter of expatriate Abu Sadek Mia.
According to family and police sources, Nishat went missing on April 15 after she left home in the afternoon to buy chips from a nearby shop. When she did not return, her family searched for her extensively and later filed a general diary (GD) with Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station.
Investigators said CCTV footage from the area shows a woman wearing a black burqa holding the child’s hand and walking away. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the woman.
Locals discovered the body after a young man noticed a suspicious sack in a bush and informed authorities. Police later recovered the body from the scene.
An officer from the police station confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death. The body has been sent to the district hospital morgue for autopsy.
Multiple law enforcement units, including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), have joined the investigation to identify those involved and uncover the motive.
The incident has sparked widespread fear in the area, with residents demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible.
