Angry Locals Attack and Vandalize Residence of Jamaat MP Golam Rosul Over Madrasa Road Dispute in Jessore

Enraged local residents attacked and vandalized the residence of Golam Rosul, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Jessore-4 constituency and district Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, following a dispute inside a local madrasa involving the lawmaker and his daughter on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place around 11:00 AM on Tuesday (July 28) in the Nilganj area of Jessore town.

Although a police team subsequently arrived at the scene, the MP and his family members remain blockaded inside their house.

Facing the hostile situation outside, MP Golam Rosul went live on Facebook to express concerns regarding his safety, tendered an apology, and appealed to live in peace and harmony.

Golam Rosul represents the Jessore-4 (Bagherpara–Abhaynagar) parliamentary constituency and serves as the Ameer of the district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami. According to police and local residents, an educational institution named Al Madrasatush Shar'iyyah and an adjacent mosque are located in front of his residence in Nilganj. A long-standing dispute had been ongoing between the MP’s family and the students and teachers of the madrasa regarding the access road leading to the institution.

The tension escalated when the MP's daughter, Ananya, allegedly intimidated several madrasa students on Monday. Following the confrontation, the matter was temporarily settled through police mediation. However, several protesters alleged that threats were made to shut down the madrasa entirely, which sparked deep resentment among local residents.

According to eyewitnesses, MP Golam Rosul and his daughter went to the madrasa on Tuesday morning and got into a heated argument with teachers and guardians. During the altercation, Ananya allegedly struck a local woman named Rexona, fracturing her head, and subsequently assaulted a guardian named Nasir Uddin. As news of the assault spread, local residents became enraged. Sensing the deteriorating situation, the lawmaker and his daughter locked the main entrance gate of their residence, keeping themselves blockaded inside.
