Moulvibazar civil surgeon ordered to be withdrawn

The authorities have been directed to withdraw Moulvibazar Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mamunur Rahman by Monday over allegations of negligence in discharging his duties.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury gave the directive at a meeting on law and order and development coordination in Moulvibazar on Sunday.

The meeting was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner’s office in the district around September 27 noon.

The minister said no negligence or irregularity in providing public healthcare would be tolerated. He directed the concerned authorities to take administrative action against the civil surgeon and ensure his withdrawal by Monday.

The meeting also discussed the overall healthcare situation in the district, coordination among government agencies and the implementation of ongoing development activities.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Touhiduzzaman Pavel, the meeting was attended by MPs Nasir Uddin Ahmed and Md Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, officials from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the superintendent of police, representatives of the district administration and officials of different government departments.

Ariful Haque also stressed the need for better coordination among government officials and timely implementation of decisions taken at the district level.

He said improving the law-and-order situation was one of his priorities, adding that the administration, law enforcement agencies, elected representatives, media and the public should work together to curb drugs, crime and other offences.

The minister also called for regular consultations with local people to identify their priorities and ensure greater public participation in development activities.

He said the progress of activities would be reviewed after a month.
