Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92. She breathed her last on Sunday (April 12) while undergoing treatment at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news to the media, stating that the last rites will be held on Monday (April 13) at 4:00 pm at Shivaji Park in Mumbai.
According to attending physicians, the veteran singer was rushed to the hospital after suffering from serious cardiac complications. Despite receiving intensive care in the emergency unit, she could not be revived. Family sources also revealed that prolonged fatigue, lung and chest infections, along with heart-related issues, contributed to the deterioration of her health.
With a remarkable career spanning over eight decades, Asha Bhosle captivated millions across the globe with her versatile voice. She recorded songs in numerous languages and excelled in a wide range of genres, including classical, ghazal, folk, and modern music, earning her an unparalleled position in the music industry.
In recognition of her extraordinary contribution to music, she was honored with India’s highest cinematic award, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, along with numerous national and international accolades. She was also a recipient of the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, cementing her legacy as one of the greatest playback singers in Indian history.
Her death has cast a deep shadow of grief across the Indian subcontinent’s music fraternity. The legacy she leaves behind will continue to inspire generations to come.
