A three-day International Yoga Day celebration began on June 19, 2026, at the Loknath Temple premises in Moulvibazar under the theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” bringing together yoga enthusiasts, students and community members in a vibrant display of health awareness and social harmony.

The programme, jointly organised by the Assistant High Commission of India in Sylhet and Swami Vivekananda Yoga School, Moulvibazar, saw the participation of more than a hundred men and women, including 75 students.

The inaugural session started at 6:30am and was presided over by Advocate Bhushanjit Chowdhury, principal of Swami Vivekananda Yoga School, Moulvibazar.

Assistant High Commissioner Aniruddha Das attended the event as the chief guest. Special guests included Rajesh Bhatia, Indian Assistant High Commissioner ,Mizanur Rahman Tipu, president of the Moulvibazar District Bar Association, Dr Md Abu Taher, Advocate Amulya Kumar Ghosh, Dr A K Jillul Haque and Sheela Talukdar, among other distinguished personalities.

Participants performed nearly 30 yoga postures and pranayama exercises at the beginning of the programme. This was followed by an engaging discussion highlighting the significance of International Yoga Day and the health benefits of regular yoga practice.

In his address, Assistant High Commissioner Aniruddha Das placed special emphasis on the theme of the 12th International Yoga Day, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.

He said regular yoga practice plays a crucial role in maintaining physical fitness, mental wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle. He also encouraged people of all ages to incorporate yoga into their daily routines for a balanced and healthier life.

Refreshments were served to participants at the end of the programme.

Organisers said the event successfully spread a message of health consciousness, human solidarity and collective wellbeing, while fostering a spirit of unity and community engagement in Moulvibazar.
