Transgender Zara Islam has been elected Assistant General Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra Union Moulvibazar District Committee.

He is the first transgender student leader in the history of student politics in Moulvibazar district.

The 29th General Meeting of Bangladesh Chhatra Union Moulvibazar District Parliament was held last Friday (May 10). Mahir Shahriar Reza, general secretary of the organization's central Committee, was present as the chief guest.

Later in the council session, a 17-member Moulvibazar district committee was formed by unanimously electing Prashant Kairi as the president and Prince Roy Piyas as the general secretary.

Zara Islam, a student of Accounting Department of Srimangal Government College of Srimangal Upazila of the district, has been elected as the assistant general secretary of the committee.

In this regard, the newly elected general secretary Prince Roy Pius said, A new chapter of the progressive student movement has been written by electing the talented student and talented student leader, transgender Zara Islam, as the assistant general secretary of the Moulvibazar District Committee of Bangladesh Chhatra Union.

President of the organization Prashant Kairi said, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, born from the fire of language movement, besides leading all student movements in the country, has created a new history in various democratic movements and struggles, including transgender rights. In the city of history and heritage Moulvibazar district, this is the first time that a transgender student has been held under the leadership.
