Lutfey Siddiqi made special envoy to Chief Adviser

The interim government has appointed Lutfey Siddiqi as special envoy on international affairs to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain on Wednesday in this regard.

He will enjoy the facilities equivalent to an adviser’s status.

The notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain, states that Lutfey Siddiqi will receive the salary, allowances, and associated benefits of an advisory position while serving as Special Envoy on International Affairs. This order will be effective immediately.

According to his LinkedIn profile and website, Lutfey Siddiqi has studied at the University of York and the London School of Economics.

He is currently a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and is involved with the university’s Systemic Risk Centre, the LSE Ideas think tank on foreign policy, and the Behavioral Science Department’s Inclusive Initiatives. He is a former member of the university's Court of Governors (now Emeritus Governor) and its Investment Committee. He is also a Fellow at Bangladesh’s Policy Research Institute.

Lutfey Siddiqi hails from Sitakunda in Chattogram. His father, A. Y. B. Siddiqui (Burhan Siddiqui), served as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh from September 27, 1998, to June 7, 2000. He was a distinguished diplomat who passed away on July 18, 2021, at the age of 75.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Lutfey Siddiqi is an Adjunct Professor at the Strategy and Policy Department of the Risk Management Institute at the National University of Singapore and at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the International Leadership Council at the Center for Governance and Sustainability (CGS) and the Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES) at the same university.

Previously, he was the Global Head of Emerging Markets in the Foreign Exchange, Interest Rates, and Credit division at UBS Investment Bank in Illinois, USA, and the founding head of the UBS Knowledge Network. He has also served as a Managing Director at Barclays in Singapore and London.

Further information from his LinkedIn profile indicates that Lutfey Siddiqi was recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2012 and has been working with the Forum's Global Future Council since 2014. He holds a diploma from the Financial Times in London for Non-Executive Directors.

Lutfey Siddiqi is currently a Governor at UWC Atlantic College in the UK. He is a trustee at ShareAction, a non-profit organization working on positive investment management in the UK, and a former governor of the New City College Group in London.

He is a former board member of CFA Singapore and an inaugural member of the CFA Future of Finance Content Council. He has also worked briefly as a member of the CFA Institute’s Executive Leadership Team.

Lutfey Siddiqi’s website indicates that he speaks and writes on topics such as finance, investment, risk management, sustainable development, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), macroeconomics, geopolitics, emerging markets (particularly Asia), capital markets, banking and regulations, and policy communications.

Additionally, he works on executive programs related to leadership, diversity, board governance, and management change.
