Police have arrested a young man in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria over allegations of making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Akhaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Jabed Ul Islam confirmed that the arrest was made on Wednesday night from the accused's home in Airal village of the upazila.

The arrested individual, Asaduzzaman Wasim (25), is the son of Md. Ratan of the same village.

According to police, Asaduzzaman had published a post containing derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which subsequently spread widely on Facebook. The post triggered anger in the area and demands for his arrest. That night, several hundred people gathered at his home and staged a protest demonstration.

Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the scene, arrested him immediately, and brought the situation under control. Asaduzzaman is currently being held at the police station. OC Jabed Ul Islam said that legal proceedings against him are underway.
