The Bangladeshi youth killed by police gunfire in the United States, Win Rosario, has been mourned by Bangladesh. Foreign Minister Dr. Hassan Mahmud has urged for the prosecution of the guilty through thorough investigation.

Speaking to journalists at the Awami League's central office on Saturday (March 30) afternoon, he said, "Recently, a Bangladeshi youth was killed by police gunfire in New York. This incident is extremely tragic. Our Consul General has met with the family of the deceased youth. The family's statement is that the situation did not necessitate the police firing. The police's statement is different. The youth was shot six times. This incident is extremely tragic. We hope that the New York administration will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. If anyone is found to have overreacted and if anyone is found guilty, action will be taken against them."

He said, "The family of the deceased youth went to New York 10 years ago. They are Bangladeshi passport holders. They have applied for a Green Card, but they have not received it yet."

The Foreign Minister said, "The United States is our close friend. Recently, through letters from President Joe Biden of the United States and the return letter from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we are working to further strengthen our friendship, camaraderie, and relationship."

He said, "We have already communicated with the relatives of the sailors from Somalia, and discussions are underway with them. Through dialogue, I hope we can free our citizens, free the ship as well. All sailors are fine. They are in the cabin. There is no problem with their food and drink. There has been no misconduct with the sailors so far."

Dr. Hassan Mahmud said, "Three officers of the Myanmar military have surrendered to Bangladesh. They are under the protection of our BGB. Myanmar has already proposed to take them back by boat. We hope that very soon, we will be able to send them back by boat."
