Three members of the Myanmar military have taken shelter in Bangladesh by crossing the border through Tumbru in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban. They have been disarmed by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

On Saturday morning at 5 am, these three members of the Myanmar military entered Bangladesh by crossing the border. It has been informed by the concerned authorities that they are from the Naikhongchhari Battalion.

BGB officials in Cox's Bazar sector and region have confirmed the matter of the three military members taking refuge. They said, "The three military members who came are confirmed to be under protection. They fled from the Northern Maungdaw area of Myanmar and sought refuge within Bangladesh's borders."

Residents of the Kumarnapara area of the upazila stated that three military personnel, armed, crossed the border and arrived at the house of Hafez Abul Kalam in Konarpara. They were very hungry and distressed. Members of Hafez Abul Kalam's family arranged for their food. Later, when the news spread, the BGB came and took them away.

A BGB official, on the condition of anonymity, stated that among the three who came, one is a captain. Initially, it has been learned from them that the insurgent Arakan Army of Rakhine State launched an attack on their camp in the Northern Maungdaw area. The majority of the camp members were killed by the Arakan Army. They somehow managed to escape and wandered into the forests, eventually reaching Bangladesh. They cannot provide further details of what happened to other members.

Previously, on March 11, 177 members of Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) and the Customs Department took refuge in Bangladesh by crossing the border through the Jumchhari Union of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban. They are now being accommodated in the Naikhongchhari BGB Battalion headquarters area.

Following communication between the foreign ministries of both countries in February, 330 members of the Myanmar Border Guard Police, military, and the Customs Department who had taken refuge earlier in the border areas of Bangladesh were repatriated.
