Canceling my seat and punishing me is a violation of human rights: BUET student Imtiaz

Protesting the entry of the Chhatra League president onto the campus, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was in turmoil for the second consecutive day today, Saturday. Yesterday, students protested against campus politics from noon.

Despite the prohibition on campus politics, they demanded the cancellation of Imtiaz Rahim's seat and his expulsion for allowing the Central Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain onto the campus. Subsequently, the university administration issued a notice canceling the seat late at night.

Regarding this, Imtiaz Rahim Rabbie told the media, "A certain group of politically motivated students is trying to create such an environment. Those who were arrested for vandalism in Tanguar Haor—they are the ones orchestrating these actions. Ordinary students are being pressured to participate in protests through various messenger groups. My fault is that I follow the ideals of Bangabandhu's politics. How did I, even after studying at BUET, get a position in the Central Chhatra League! So, they cannot tolerate us. Cancelling my seat like this is a fundamental violation of human rights."

Imtiaz further said, "The BUET administration canceled my seat based solely on allegations without any investigation or selection process. I don't know why the university administration is doing this. Talking to the top leaders of the Central Chhatra League about this matter, I will take legal action."

On this issue, Central Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain told the media, "The BUET administration should show respect for the position and values of the students against ideological student politics. At the same time, due to the mental harassment of a student who remains involved in the freedom struggle, respects the martyrs, and is associated with the ideals of the nation's father, if he is subjected to mental distress, then the university also has a moral responsibility to ensure his safety. If there is any deviation from this, we will take a stand against the administration. We believe there is no moral position for the administration."

Efforts to contact Dr. Mizanur Rahman, director of the Student Welfare Department of BUET, were unsuccessful after several attempts to communicate with him multiple times.
