Protest against the entry of Chhatra League leaders and activists into the campus of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was seen at midnight on Wednesday. Five students of the institution are participating in a movement against what they describe as an "Organization of Darkness" trying to create unrest at BUET using the emotions of students.

The activities at BUET are being carried out by the Islamic Chhatra Shibir and banned organization Hizbut Tahreer. Whoever speaks in favor of the Liberation War is repeatedly harassed with the tag of "Chhatra League".

This afternoon, at three o'clock, these five BUET students held a press conference at Shaheed Minar on campus. There, Tanvir Mahmud read a written statement. He claimed that they are not members of any student organization. The written statement said, "In July 2023, 34 students of BUET were arrested on charges of anti-state conspiracy and sabotage in Haor of Sunamganj. Their cases are still pending in court and everyone is on bail. In this context, we, a few ordinary students, protest against the harassment by fundamentalists. After protesting, we have been marked and we are being repeatedly harassed with verbal and physical assaults, even threatening to throw us out of the halls."

Tanvir Mahmud said, "In internal Facebook groups of BUET, if anyone tries to express their opinion in our favor, they are subjected to bullying and various threats. Many have to agree with contempt because they have a good relationship or acquaintance with us. Anyone who has any personal or family relationship with a political figure, especially if they are associated with the consciousness of the Liberation War or the power of the Awami League, is attacked personally, and even their families are insulted both online and offline." He said, "Whoever speaks in favor of the consciousness of the Liberation War, like us, is facing various types of harassment. A fundamentalist group is trying to discredit us by lying and trying to achieve their selfish interests."

At the press conference, another BUET student, Ashik Alam, raised the issue of the activities of the banned organization on campus. He said, "Some incidents on campus and one after another attack on us prove that now the Hizbut Tahreer is running their activities openly on the BUET campus. This banned organization is gaining sympathy from ordinary students by exploiting their emotions. There has been a very bad incident with our BUET brother Abrar Fahad. We strongly condemn this incident. But Hizbut Tahreer and Shibir are exploiting this sympathy of ordinary students for their own propaganda. He said, "Whoever speaks in favor of the consciousness of the Liberation War, they are repeatedly harassed with the tag of 'Chhatra League'. Many students want to be present here, but they are afraid of threats and intimidation. Even if 20-25 more people want to come here, they are shown fear and threatened."

Ashik said, "We want to study peacefully on campus, we want to take exams. Let everyone believe in their own ideology. However, we will never allow any anti-liberation consciousness to take root at BUET." On Wednesday midnight, Ashik Alam's statement regarding the entry of Chhatra League into BUET's campus, "We have heard that the president of a student organization came there. He can come. He did not conduct any political activities."
