Foreign Adviser Touhid Hussain commented that if Pakistan expresses regret on the 71 issue, relations will be easier and move forward.
He said this in response to a question from journalists at a press conference organized on Tuesday (October 1) evening at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Bangladesh's participation in the UN session and contemporary issues.
The High Commissioner of Pakistan gave a message to advance the relationship. However, they have not yet apologized for the 1971 genocide; When asked about this, the foreign advisor said, "I don't think that a 52-year-old issue will be resolved tomorrow." But when we sit down at the negotiating table, the issue must remain. The statement made by Pakistan's High Commissioner is similar to such statements that have come from their leaders before.
Touhid Hussain said, I think if Pakistan shows this courage, citing the incident that happened here in 1971, they apologize sincerely, there is nothing wrong in it. Japan has been apologizing for their actions for the past 70 years. If Pakistan can also show this then relations will become normal and easy. Again, there is no need to hold back the relationship because of this. We have been maintaining the relationship. But the relationship should be carried forward while maintaining interest. Here we also have interests, they also have. Everything must be seen.
At this time, Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hussain commented that the controversial statements of Indian political leaders about Bangladesh are unacceptable. He said, 'Bangladesh-India wants to maintain good relations for their own interests. The two heads of government may meet at the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit next month.
In addition to this, recently in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session, the foreign advisor of the interim government. India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with Touhid Hussain. Touhid Hussain also said that there was no discussion about bringing back Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is staying in India, in that meeting.
When asked whether there was any discussion about bringing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back to the country or not, the foreign adviser said, there was no discussion about bringing her (Sheikh Hasina) back.
