Haydar Akbar Khan Rono is no more

The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) advisor, Haydar Akbar Khan Rono, is no more. The seasoned leftist leader breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital on Friday night.

Haydar Akbar Khan Rono passed away at 2:05 am on Friday night. This information was confirmed by Jolly Talukdar, a member of the central committee of the Communist Party of Bangladesh present at the hospital.

Politician and writer Haydar Akbar Khan Rono had been admitted to the Health and Hope Hospital on Pathantuli Road on the evening of May 6 due to severe respiratory illness (Type-2 respiratory failure), as informed earlier by the hospital's director and public health expert, Dr. Lelin Chowdhury.

Haydar Akbar Khan Rono was a prominent figure in the Communist movement in Bangladesh. He was born on August 31, 1942, in undivided India's Kolkata. His mother's name was Kaniz Fatema Mohsina and his father was Hatem Ali Khan. Haydar Akbar Khan Rono's only brother, Bir Muktijoddha and politician Haydar Anwar Khan Juno, had passed away earlier.

A warrior in the political arena, Haydar Akbar Khan Rono was simultaneously a freedom fighter of '71, a theoretician, and a writer. In 1958, he secured the 12th position in the merit list of the Matriculation examination from St. Gregory's School in Dhaka. He passed his Intermediate examinations from Notre Dame College and was admitted to the Department of Physics at Dhaka University in 1960. However, due to incarceration, he couldn't complete his Honors course.

Haydar Akbar Khan Rono obtained his LLB degree while in jail in Jessore. Later, he also obtained a certificate from the High Court, but he never pursued a legal career.

Apart from his contributions to Bengali and world literature and cutting-edge theories in physics, he has written numerous articles on Marxism, politics, history, philosophy, economics, literature, and science (physics). He regularly contributed columns.

In 2022, he received the Bangla Academy Literary Award.

At the age of 24, he wrote his first book, "The Outline of Imperialism." This book was the first theoretical work on imperialism from a Marxist perspective in Pakistan.

Haydar Akbar Khan Rono authored a total of 25 books.
