How to use the Snap Layout feature in Windows 11

To use multiple apps simultaneously on your PC can be annoying, especially during urgent tasks due to constantly switching between apps.

To address this issue, Microsoft has introduced the 'Snap Layout' feature in Windows.

This feature allows you to view and use multiple apps side by side without having to repeatedly minimize or resize them. The tech site How-To Geek has published a guide on this feature.

How to Enable the Feature?
By default, this feature is enabled in Windows, provided it hasn’t been disabled beforehand. However, it's a good idea to check.

Click on the Windows Start Menu, then go to the Settings app. Click on the System option, and from the left sidebar, select the Multitasking option. Check if the toggle next to 'Snap Windows' is turned on.

Additionally, you can customize the Snap Layout experience by enabling the Snap Windows menu, where you can disable any unnecessary steps.

How to Use It?
First, open the apps you want to use simultaneously. Then, press Windows + Z to open the Snap Layout box. Alternatively, you can also activate it by hovering the mouse cursor over the minimize/restore button in the upper-right corner of the window.

Once the Snap Layout box is open, choose your preferred configuration based on how many windows you need. For just two apps, select the option to split the screen into two. For more than two apps, you will have options to split the screen into three or four sections.

After choosing a configuration, Windows will automatically resize and place the selected apps into the chosen sections of the screen. Then, select the remaining screen sections for the other apps.

If you add a new window to a section where an app is already present, Windows will prompt you to select a new location for the previous window.

Closing an app from the Snap Layout doesn’t affect other apps. To remove an app from the snap layout, press the ‘Close’ or ‘Minimize’ button. If you minimize an app, reopening it while Snap Layout is active will return it to the Snap view.

However, if you maximize or enlarge a window and then click the restore button, it will not return to the Snap view. You will need to follow the same process to reapply the Snap Layout.
