In Khulna, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, was blockaded by a ‘mob’ of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement demanding the resignation of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Md. Zulfiquar Ali Haider.
On Saturday (June 28), the incident began when the Press Secretary visited the Khulna Press Club in the afternoon for a courtesy meeting with journalists.
Upon receiving the news, activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement gathered in front of the Press Club, blocking the road. As a result, the Press Secretary was trapped inside the Press Club.
During this time, the protesters announced that they would not allow the Press Secretary to leave until the Commissioner resigned. As of 8 PM, the Press Secretary remained blockaded in the Press Club.
Media worker Mostafa Jamal Poplu stated, “After a meeting with Khulna journalists at the District Commissioner’s office, the Press Secretary came to visit the Khulna Press Club around 5 PM. At that time, a group of student and public protesters gathered in front of the Press Club, preventing anyone from leaving. Consequently, the Press Secretary was also blockaded. The protesters later declared that the Press Secretary would not be allowed to leave until an announcement regarding the KMP Commissioner’s resignation was made.”
Even after mobs created a chaotic situation across the country, Shafiqul Alam referred to mob-terrorism as a 'pressure group' a few days ago.
