Due to the remote location causing delays in reaching the hospital, four tea workers died after entering a septic tank in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar. Authorities suspect their deaths were caused by toxic gas in the septic tank.
The incident occurred around 11 PM on Wednesday at Harinchhara Tea Estate. One other person was injured and admitted to a hospital.
Sreemangal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam confirmed the incident.
The deceased are tea workers Krishna Rabi Das (20), Shraban (18), Nipen (27), and Rana (16) from Harinchhara Tea Estate.
The injured worker, Rabi Bunarji (20), was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
OC Aminul Islam said on Thursday morning, "Last night, five individuals fell ill after entering the septic tank at Harinchhara Tea Estate. Due to the remote location, it took time to transport them to a hospital. They were first taken to Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared four of them dead. The bodies are being kept at the hospital."
He added, "We suspect the deaths may have been caused by toxic gas in the septic tank. The matter is under investigation."
