BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for an oath to never allow "fascist" Sheikh Hasina to engage in politics in Bangladesh. He stated, "We must take an oath that we will never give fascist Sheikh Hasina the opportunity to do politics in Bangladesh. We will not bow down to anyone. We will build our country into a self-sufficient nation ourselves."
He made these remarks on Sunday (August 3) at a student rally organized in Dhaka’s Shahbagh as part of BNP’s month-long programs marking the first anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.
Addressing the activists of Chhatra Dal, Mirza Fakhrul said, "A new sun has risen. This sun will illuminate us all. It has ushered in a new horizon and started inspiring new dreams. A new opportunity has presented itself before us to rebuild Bangladesh anew."
He added, "Our student brothers have shed much blood. They have endured immense torture and been imprisoned repeatedly. I believe there is hardly any Chhatra Dal activist who has not been jailed or faced persecution multiple times. Today is a day of both great joy and deep sorrow. Exactly one year ago, on this day, we lost our brothers."
Regarding Sheikh Hasina, the BNP leader said, "In our neighboring country, India, fascist Sheikh Hasina has taken refuge with her forces. From there, she occasionally threatens to attack Bangladesh. Not only that, they are attempting to create chaos here. From today’s rally, we must take an oath that we will never allow fascist Sheikh Hasina to do politics in Bangladesh. We will not bow down to anyone. We will build our country into a self-sufficient nation ourselves."
He also expressed optimism about the upcoming elections in February, hoping that BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, would return to Bangladesh, participate in the elections, and emerge victorious.
