Moni Rani Das Receives ‘Kamla Bhasin Award’

Moni Rani Das, the General Secretary of the Dalit Women's Forum, has been honored with the prestigious ‘Kamla Bhasin Award’ this year in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the development of the Dalit community, especially the empowerment of Dalit women.

The award was presented at a ceremony in Nepal on November 27.

Due to physical illness, Moni Rani Das was unable to attend the event personally. The award was received on her behalf by Nadira Parveen, Program Manager of Nagorik Uddyog (Citizen's Initiative).

Nadira Parveen expressed gratitude on behalf of Moni Rani Das and highlighted her struggle for the establishment of the rights of Dalit women at the ceremony.

As the General Secretary of the Dalit Women's Forum, Moni Rani Das has been tirelessly working for a long time to establish the education, health, economic empowerment, and social status of the Dalit community, particularly Dalit women. Under her leadership, the Dalit Women's Forum has implemented numerous programs in various regions of the country for awareness-raising, skills development, and the realization of rights.

The 'Kamla Bhasin Award' is presented for special contributions to women's rights and empowerment in the South Asian region. The award was instituted in the name of the renowned feminist activist and writer Kamla Bhasin, who dedicated her life to establishing the rights of women in South Asia.

Commenting on receiving the award, Moni Rani Das said, "This award is not just for me; it is for all Dalit women and men who are struggling to establish their rights. I hope this recognition will further strengthen our movement and pave the way for the empowerment of Dalit women."

Dalit Women's Forum, Nagorik Uddyog, and various social and human rights organizations have congratulated Moni Rani Das. They state that the progress being made in establishing the rights and dignity of Dalit women in Bangladesh is a result of the contributions of dedicated activists like Moni Rani Das.
