Don’t use my brother Hadi’s blood to stop the election: Omar bin Hadi

Sharif Omar bin Hadi, the brother of the slain convener of Inqilab Mancha, Sharif Osman bin Hadi, has stated that the "government cannot evade responsibility" for the assassination. He remarked, "A martyred Osman Hadi returns among us many times stronger than a living Osman Hadi. Millions of people in Bangladesh are waiting for justice for Osman Hadi."

"I urge the government—Osman Hadi was killed while you are in power. You cannot avoid responsibility for this murder; you will be held accountable. Whether it is today or ten years from now, you must stand in the dock," said Omar Hadi.

He made these remarks on Tuesday (December 23) afternoon during a program titled ‘Shahidi Shapot’ (Martyr’s Pledge) held at Shahbagh in Dhaka.

Suggesting that attempts are being made to derail the upcoming election following the murder, he said, "If you think you can leave power in two months and go abroad, remember, the people of this country will bring you to justice."

"Therefore, I request the government to immediately present the killers before us. Ensure that the electoral environment is not disrupted. Punish the murderers. You yourselves orchestrated Osman Hadi's murder, and now you are trying to use this as an issue to sabotage the election—we will never let that happen."

Hadi's brother further added, "Osman Hadi had demanded that the national election must be held in February and had taken to the field to prepare for it. But he was killed in an attempt to obstruct that very election."

Complaining that the government has failed to show any "visible progress" even six days after the murder, he said, "I have only one demand to the government: present the entire killing squad of martyr Osman Hadi before the nation."

"Remember one thing, those who were powerful before the July Revolution and considered the state their own are no longer in Bangladesh today. They were forced to flee. If justice is not served for Osman Hadi, you too will be forced to flee Bangladesh one day."

Omar Hadi added, "Whichever agency or state you served to kill Osman Hadi, remember that he never bowed down to any agency, any state, or any puppet. If he had bowed down, he could have lived a comfortable life like other compromised leaders."

The 'Shahidi Shapot' oath was administered by Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Mancha. Fatema Tasnim Juma, the Liberation War and Movement Affairs Secretary of DUCSU, along with other leaders and activists, was present at the event.
