The Jatiya Party (Japa), led by GM Quader, has announced its candidates for 243 out of 300 parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming national elections. In the Sylhet division, the party has named candidates for 15 out of 19 seats.

The faction led by GM Quader, which uses the 'Plough' (Langal) symbol, was previously part of the Awami League-led Grand Alliance. However, following the fall of the Awami League government, the party has faced various political hurdles. The interim government has excluded them from several dialogues, and uncertainty remains regarding their participation in the elections.

Despite these challenges, party leaders remain hopeful that the Election Commission (EC) will facilitate their participation. However, during a press conference, the party warned that they might withdraw from the race if a "level playing field" for all parties is not ensured.

The final list of candidates was unveiled by the party's Secretary General, Shamim Haider Patwary, at the Lakeshore Hotel in Gulshan on Friday (December 26).

"Jatiya Party has always respected the verdict of the people. We are an election-oriented party. The prerequisite for a fair and participatory election is a stable law and order situation and equal opportunities for all parties. It is the responsibility of the interim government to ensure this, but we are concernedly observing their failure to do so," said Shamim Haider Patwary.

Party Chairman GM Quader will contest from the Rangpur-3 constituency, while Secretary General Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary will run for both Gaibandha-1 and Gaibandha-5.
