2 killed, 3 injured in microbus-CNG collision in Sreemangal

Two people were killed and at least three others injured in a road accident involving a microbus and a CNG-run autorickshaw in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar on Monday evening.

The accident occurred in the Sirajnagar–Lamua area under Kalapur Union on the Dhaka–Moulvibazar highway, according to police and local sources.

The deceased were identified as Hannan Mia, 35, the CNG driver from Uttar Bharauara village of Sreemangal, and Md Ruhul, whose full identity could not be confirmed immediately.

According to witnesses and police, the collision took place when a speeding microbus coming from the opposite direction crashed head-on into the autorickshaw, leaving it mangled. The driver and passengers of the CNG sustained serious injuries.

Locals rescued the injured victims and rushed them to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared two people dead on arrival.

Among the injured, a person named Sabbir has been admitted to the sadar hospital, while another critically injured victim was referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Srimangal Police Station, Jahirul Islam Munna, confirmed the fatalities and said the bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue. Legal procedures are underway.
