Presbyterian Synod in Sylhet Concludes Annual Meeting, Elects New Leadership

The annual meeting of the Sylhet Presbyterian Synod concluded successfully after a three-day session held from March 27 to 29 at Magurchhara Punji in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar.

More than 250 representatives from around 72 Presbyterian churches across the Sylhet division participated in the gathering, marking one of the largest attendances in recent years, according to organisers.

The session was presided over by former moderator Rev. B. B. Prentice. During the meeting, Rev. Evrison Potam was elected as the new moderator of the synod. Other members of the newly elected leadership include Nelson N. Sarker as general secretary, Rev. Sokhriya Kot as joint general secretary, Rev. Edward Simon Sarker as treasurer, and Jidishon Suchiang and Rush Potam as members.

The synod also appointed four individuals trained in Christian theology as assistant pastors (pro-pastors) in their respective churches.

A special worship service was organised on Sunday to mark Palm Sunday, drawing around 600 guests from nearby churches. The day was observed with religious rituals, prayers, and spiritual reflection.

The three-day meeting featured discussions on a range of important issues, culminating in several unanimous decisions. The programme formally concluded on the afternoon of March 29.
