Borhan Uddin Yassin, a journalist for the daily Sakalayer Somoy, was injured following an assault by a group of transgender individuals in the capital's Shahbagh area.
The incident took place on Friday (April 3) in front of the National Museum. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
According to witnesses and local sources, a group of transgender and LGBTQ+ individuals routinely gather in front of the National Museum every Friday. The confrontation began when Yassin started filming their activities.
The group reportedly became agitated by the recording and launched a sudden physical assault on the journalist. Bystanders rescued him from the scene and rushed him to the hospital.
Upon receiving the news, law enforcement officials visited the spot to assess the situation. The Shahbagh Police Station has confirmed that the situation is now under control. Officials stated that they are investigating the assault and will take necessary legal action based on their findings.
