Cannabis, Eskuf syrup seized in Madhabpur

A special anti-narcotics drive conducted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Habiganj, under the direction of Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Tarek Mahmud, led to the seizure of a large quantity of cannabis and Eskuf syrup. One person was arrested in connection with the incident.

The operation was carried out at around 3:25am on April 22, 2026, and the matter was later confirmed by police officials.

According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, a DB team conducted a raid at a tin-shed house surrounded by boundary walls in Bejura village under Jagadishpur union of Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj district. During the drive, law enforcers recovered 129 kilograms of cannabis and seven bottles of Eskuf syrup. A woman, identified as Aklima Akter, 35, was arrested from the scene.

The seized contraband included 129kg of cannabis packed in eight plastic sacks and seven bottles of Eskuf syrup containing codeine phosphate and triprolidine hydrochloride. The estimated value of the cannabis is around Tk 25.8 lakh, while the syrup is valued at about Tk 21,000, bringing the total estimated value to Tk 26.01 lakh.

A case has been filed with Madhabpur Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act, numbered 25 and dated April 22, 2026.

Police said such anti-drug drives will continue with increased intensity under the direction of SP Md Tarek Mahmud, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved.
