A cloud of uncertainty and concern has emerged following the death of a student from University of Dhaka, with investigators examining whether the incident was a case of suicide or involved external provocation.

The deceased, Munira Mahzabin Mimo, was a postgraduate student of the Theatre and Performance Studies department. She was found hanging at her residence in Badda area of the capital on Sunday morning (April 26).

Police recovered her body from the residence and took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

According to family members, Mimo had spoken with her father the previous night before going to her room. Early in the morning, when she did not respond and the door remained locked, family members broke it open and found her hanging.

Key Findings from Preliminary Investigation

While police are initially treating the case as a suicide, several emerging details have added complexity to the investigation:

The note reportedly hints at a personal relationship with a teacher

Phone records indicate communication with the concerned teacher shortly before her death

Teacher, Peer Questioned
Following the incident, police have taken a faculty member of the department into custody for questioning. A fellow student has also been brought in for interrogation.

Officials from Dhaka Metropolitan Police told media that, based on initial evidence and the family's statement, the possibility of abetment to suicide is being examined. Legal proceedings are currently underway.

Department Reacts with Shock
Chairperson of the department, Kazi Tamanna Haque Sigma, said teachers rushed to the residence upon receiving news of the incident in the morning. She noted that the note left behind by the student could play a significant role in the investigation.

In an official condolence message, the department described Mimo as a bright and lively student, expressing deep shock over her sudden and tragic death.

Police said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after analyzing the autopsy report and digital evidence, including call history and messages.
