No Negligence in Passenger Service: DG Railway

Bangladesh Railway has adopted a firm stance on enhancing the quality of passenger services on running trains, urging onboard catering and service providers to act with greater responsibility, professionalism, and accountability.

Railway Director General Afzal Hossain said that service delivery must not be limited to contractual obligations, stressing that passenger satisfaction, safety, and comfort should be treated as top priorities.

He made the remarks while presiding over a meeting held on Thursday (May 7) morning at the “Padma” conference room of Rail Bhaban in Dhaka. The meeting focused on improving passenger service standards, maintaining discipline in train operations, and modernizing onboard and catering services to make them more passenger-friendly.

Railway Ministry Secretary Fahimul Islam attended the meeting as the chief guest. Senior officials from the railway operations and commercial departments, along with representatives from the eastern and western zones and various service provider companies, were also present.

DG Afzal Hossain said passengers today expect not only safe journeys but also clean, high-quality, and reliable services. He emphasized ensuring food quality on trains, maintaining strict hygiene, timely service delivery, and courteous behavior towards passengers.

He further stated that all service-related organizations would remain under regular monitoring. Any negligence, substandard food supply, or irregularities in service delivery would be dealt with strictly in accordance with regulations.

Railway Secretary Fahimul Islam said the government is working to modernize Bangladesh Railway into a safer, more efficient, and passenger-oriented service. He warned that any negligence in passenger services would not be tolerated.

Representatives of onboard catering and service providers expressed their commitment to improving service standards and assured full cooperation with railway authorities.

The meeting also stressed strengthening passenger safety, improving service quality control, maintaining cleanliness, and enhancing coordination among all concerned stakeholders.

The session concluded with a collective commitment from all parties to work together towards a more modern, safe, and passenger-friendly railway service.
